British photographer Ben McMillan recently returned to London after living and working in China for more than ten years, based in Beijing.

Graduating in Modern History from Edinburgh University Ben began his career in journalism, as an Asia-Pacific reporter based in Singapore and then a freelancer for UK newspapers from Southern Africa. From there Ben moved into broadcasting with the BBC World Service in London before a trip to Shanghai inspired his move to China and into photography in 2005.

Ben's early work focused on urbanisation, leading to editorial and commercial architecture commissions in the run up to the Beijing Olympic Games. Added to his technical skill clients drew on Ben's background in story-telling, as he documented some of the world's largest construction projects at that pivotal time.

From there Ben continued to shoot personal and commercial work while also setting up Beijing Photospace, a full-service production company and rental studio supporting clients ranging from American Vogue to Mercedes to Sony Pictures International.

This period, supporting crews from around the world while also shooting for local clients, gave Ben a unique insight into the China media market, plus Producer-grade expertise in working there.

Since returning to the UK Ben has focused on a portrait project exploring the immigration debate while developing new skills in drone photography and video.
